What's My Why

When we seek a counselor, we often ask: Why did you choose this career? We want to understand what drives the person we are trusting with our mental health. So here’s my “why.”
Once upon a time, I was a middle school girl navigating an unexpected move, a difficult custody battle, and more friend drama than I could handle. I desperately wanted someone to talk t0, someone who made me feel heard because they truly wanted to listen, not because my parents paid them. I wanted someone to see beneath my words and understand the struggles underneath. Like most kids, I simply wanted to be seen and heard.

Although I didn’t always have that support, I realized I could become that person for other children. I was also fortunate to experience love and guidance from adults who helped shape who I am, and I wanted to give back. By eighth grade, I knew without a doubt that I wanted to become a counselor.
Along the way, I have worked in teaching, case management, and mentoring roles, each experience strengthening my passion for helping children and families thrive. Through these jobs, I learned something powerful: to truly help a child, you must also support their parents. This realization led me to pursue Social Work, allowing me not only to provide counseling but also to advocate for families and connect them with valuable resources. Whether that means helping them access community programs, find support services, or navigate everyday challenges.
Today, I am proud to serve as an LMSW under supervision at Gabby's Counseling Corner, building the practice I have dreamed of since middle school. This is only the beginning of my journey in helping children and families heal.
